And I look at this and I can’t help but to think “let’s do the time warp again”

    Is that..Jewel?

  • Sedusa

    06/21/2016 at 10:11pm

Okay I’m going to completely avoid the Orlando commentary in the comments here because…wow that’s not something I want to argue, and just go straight into some Thoughts.

I just binged this entire series and saw hope much people are enjoying discussing this, even if they’re angry (which I’m not). I haven’t slept in a while and I’m hyped up on caffeine. I’m feeling both conflicted and affectionate for this comic. The formatting on this comment is gonna be fuckin weird and I likely won’t proofread. Here goes.
On an individual level, I more or less like most major ideas that have cropped up in the past several chapters. I actually really like Chi as a character. I don’t like the retcon of Minimandy being ~secretly evil inside~ but I DID like the idea of her having a silent melt down over Jr because it’s…well, honestly, with all the shit that’s happened to her, I understand. I like the idea they’re about to go to war, I like the idea that Chi is in love with Mimi (ideally, in my world, the Mimi and Chi arcs end with them together in death; how that happens I don’t know, but I’d like for Mimi and Chi not to be permanent to the story and rather to inevitably help further grow the “relationship” between Mini and Jr), and I like the idea of Him in this.
The problem is, holy hell is this a flawed presentation.
I like Chi’s exploration. I like the romps. I like about half of the references, but hey, if the character development was kept to a top notch level, I wouldn’t mind! But…while Chi herself fits into the story, the way we’ve gone about this is not. There’s a whole lot of filler in a comic that takes too long to make for filler to be possible. There’s so much time that needs to be spent, and dragging things on isn’t a good thing. And while a lot of the filler can be fast paced, raunchy, and fun–that’s not a good thing for this story? It doesn’t fit. Grim Tales is supposed to be 75% serious, guys. There’s wiggle room, but not to this extent.
That’s just one problem, too. Minimandy being ~secretly evil~ still fucking bothers me. They could have explained this WITHOUT that–look at how angry she gets when Him pushes her. We all have a little evil inside, but saying that the Nergal half of her was terrified of this and how he was secretly the victim is…not okay. That bothers me more then the pacing, honestly. It’s such a good idea but it didn’t need to be explained in the way it was. Gah.
A lot of retconning in this series has been flat strange, period. I’m not against it, but sometimes it’s…just not necessary. Again, think of Minimandy.
Also…honestly I don’t mind the level of background cameos they have. Having characters in the background art doesn’t detract from the story and feels a little nit picky, but, yknow, whatever, it might break your suspension of disbelief, I understand that. You know what is weird? Putting huge references without trying to offset the silly with serious progress. Someone already said on a much earlier page that it could’ve shown Chi getting on the unicorn thing (wow, I’m bad at remembering names) and leaving as the dance number happened. I don’t mind the dance happening at all; I mind that it still took an extra like two pages for them to leave.
My final major complaint is a weird one. On the one hand, fuck I LOVE Aku in this and I like the girl form he’ll use at times, and that Chi goes from “father” to “mother”. Man…I really fucking love that. That’s so cool. On the other hand, WHY is Him so fucking masculine?
Not even the body. Just like…does anybody remember how flamboyant Him was? Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want his place in the comic to change at all. I just…would’ve rewritten the dialogue to be a bit more Him, and changed the outfits. Hell, just having Him go between masculine and feminine clothes and mannerisms would’ve worked. It’d’ve been down for that. But…no, instead we have “weirdly bishonen villain” Him, who is super important to the story, but detached from his namesake almost completely, outside of the “fucking Blossum” thing.

    A few scattered thoughts:
-Depending on the panel, I either don’t care or love the fanservice. There’s a difference between fantasy and reality. Minimandy is 10 but she also ripped her eye out to give it to her undead brother and secret crush. When I see her on screen, I don’t think “child”, I think “fictional character”–whether I feel she’s attractive largely depends on how pleasing her character design is and that…depends on the outfit she’s in honestly. I’m not really going to argue this, as it’s a personal thing, and if someone else agrees…okay sure whatever.
-I want Minimandy and Jr to kiss again. Not for fan service purposes, but I want to see what’ll happen. I feel like the relationship could either go awesome, or terrible. Depends on the way it’s done, of course, and a kiss could clue me in.
-Chi/Mimi OTP 5ever, I really hope that if NEK gets replaced the person working on Chi will give her genuinely good character development and scrubbing before leading to the end of her and Mimi’s arc. I’ve already said this but fuck you, I love them together.
-Calling it now: Him is Jr’s dad. I have a few reasons to think this, and the hint that Mandy fucked Him kinda confirmed it. I don’t think she has sex for any reason other then to bare a child.
    -Where the hell is Spawn?

I’d like to reiterate in case anyone is angry after this for some reason: I’m not upset. I love this comic. It’s been so fun binging it after reading it to the “JR HAS SKIN?!?!?!?!” page back in middle school, I think. Even if the comic never gets “better” and NEK or whoever stays in control, I’ll still really like it. I just…want it to do better. I KNOW it can do better. I’m not pessimistic about it, because whether it gets better or worse, at least I got to experience it, and for that it’s very important to me.

    • Zenix29

      06/19/2016 at 3:21pm

No, no. If you look at a lot of the comments above your it was a commissioned character called jewel who was meant to be the future child of Mimi (back when she was red and all that) and Grim jr, if you look at my comment before that, you’ll see my thoughts on this.

  • Zenix29

    06/17/2016 at 5:05am

So I just did some research on this Jewel character. Seeing as she is intended to be the daughter of Grim jr and Mimi I see three immediate problems at this point in the story line. 1. Grim jr doesn’t have a penis, if there is anything we learned from the first story arc it’s that skeletons don’t have a penis. I suppose his powers could be a solution but I don’t even want to think about that. 2. Mimi is no longer red. I know the thing that makes her red is kept inside the castle still and that could solve this problem, meaning she gains that form back (because afterbirth) but with all the security in the castle that ain’t happening for a while. 3. She is obviously older than both Mimi and Grim jr. Besides my ever growing frustration over Mimi’s sexuality (I settled on bi) it is impossible for the two of the two of them to have a kid and have it be that old. Solution? Time-travel. This opens so many more issues but time travel. Either that or bleed an came up with a whole new back story for this character (but that’s no fun)

Bleed never thinks things through and it doesn’t help that he has an ineffective editor.

I’m still hoping for Jewel to be an “illusion” or an ability for Chi to be able to see multiple realities from past and future without being able to control it.

I’m that weirdo that liked Scrappy Doo. Because of that, I can’t say that’s a bad thing, personally.
I understand what you’re getting at though. I don’t want her in the comic as a major character.

            06/18/2016 at 11:30am

I don’t think even Numa wanted her to be in it to the degree Bleed apparently wants her to be. It may be the worst decision Numa ever made.
Hope the cameo here was worth it, buddy.

            06/18/2016 at 12:20pm

Numa wanting a cameo for Jewel and Bleedman generously giving that doesn’t make it Numa’s fault if Bleed makes Jewel an official character. I’m only assuming you’re pointing fingers though, sorry if it’s not.

Like I said earlier, I’m flattered, but waving stuff in Bleed’s face may not solve things. I think people who have the closest connections to Bleed need to approach him calmly and logically if they want to make change.

        • Chibifoxkit

          06/18/2016 at 6:25am

Honestly, I just feel a lot of disappointment with the way the comic’s been going lately; a lot of my friends and I still read the comic and while most of us tolerate (but only tolerate,) Chi, even in this type of world, she not only feel’s Mary Sueish but forced.

Now give, she is the daughter of Aku and Blossom (or Raven? I’ve always been confused about that,) and power’s are to be expected and well built one’s at that but then we look at what seemed to be much more well thought out character’s such as Grim Jr. who, naively doesn’t have any powers of his own due to his who his own parents are. Even then, we love his faults because they are part of what make him who he is. Chi just seems….possessive, angry, and unaware of how those around her feel and overall just doesn’t seem to fit in as fluidly as the other’s do in this series. Now this wouldn’t be too bad if it wasn’t for the fact taht she’s been getting a lot of attention lately and it hurt’s the comic as a whole.

Her obsession over Mimi is almost creepy and the way she reacted when she found out Him didn’t bring Mimi along wasn’t by any means excusable. For me, she is the Damian Wayne of this series.

I doubt this isn’t anything you haven’t heard before and by far it’s not my place to talk about administrative positions with a project i’m not involved with, but here’s hoping someone who can change things might start to listen.

          06/18/2016 at 9:09am

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know Bleedman (not that well, granted, we’ve never interacted personally), trying to FORCE something on him is one of the best ways to make him NOT doing that.
As far as I see it, it’s like he just want to draw HIS comics, doesn’t matter who’s writing it, so yes, may be trying to blatantly tell him “you’re doing YOUR comics wrong” is not the brightest idea.

    06/15/2016 at 8:01am

Well I hope this cameo ends up meaning something. Everything needs meaning.

    • athdlg

      06/15/2016 at 8:44am

I don’t want it to mean anything. It seems like it will, at least to make Jewel a permanent character, which I disapprove of.
Make it an illusion! Even if it’s the idea of having Chi being able to see multiple possibilities of past present and future. It could already work since she already saw Blossom being murdered.

      • Grids

        06/15/2016 at 9:58am

Sadly it seems Mimi is the one who sees the future, unless in this case the future can see Chi.
I hope it’s an illusion. Otherwise it’s simply not Jewel – just an inserted character who ‘looks’ like Jewel. Can’t dismiss this as nothing at all either, cos April 1 was a couple months ago.
Each page since Chi reappeared in full has been dedicated to a cameo of some sort. GT is fast losing its way; change is needed.

        • athdlg

          06/15/2016 at 11:18am

Mimi can see in the future, yes. Doesn’t miss the chance that Chi can possibly see into alternate futures. People shouldn’t really dabble with the idea with the concept of time within a story unless they’re absolutely certain about all the corners of it. However, Aku’s abilities of time can be messed with. This semi-long babble is simply about how it could be made not to actually put Jewel in the comic as a major plot point–but rather a small explanation. She’d still be a character, sure; but not someone that would be of major value.
It’s an obvious insertion, but it seems like Jewel to me.
Many have been saying GT is losing its way since NEK took over. To me, it feels consistently neutral since his arrival, some would say consistently mediocre. It’s not going downhill and it’s not going uphill. I kind of want to keep it this way.

          • nomfish

            06/15/2016 at 11:48am

I personally, disagree. I’ve been reading since it first started. And during the time grids was helping, a lot of my questions were being answered. And it didn’t feel like a constant reference to pop culture.(well besides the first time we learn about Mandy) We kept going along in the story and it didn’t feel like a waste of time. The first introduction of Chi was when things started getting weird. I liked it for a couple of pages, but her relationship with Mimi seemed forced. I pushed my thoughts aside to see how things play out. And its been 3 years. I understand when i comes to writing, drawing, or story boarding, getting the point across is not something that can be done fast. But this story should have moved on passed Chi’s escapades. There is a conflict that needs to be addressed and not delayed. And now it feels like a constant flow of characters not accomplishing anything. (give or take a few pages)
Sorry if i seem like i’m rambling. I’m just irritated about the state of the comic. I started in 2004, left for a while, and came back 2 years ago to catch up. And it honestly feels like a completely different story. One that isn’t the one i began to read. And i don’t think that’s intentional either. But if it is, then god damn.

          • Grids

            06/15/2016 at 12:55pm

The comic was once strong and constant like the Mississippi. Now it’s split into plot meanders and pointless pop cultural tributaries that carry less water, often drying up altogether with nothing left to sustain the people.
If the mighty river is to be undammed and flow true once more, things need to change. I’m surprised you want it to stay the way it is, ATHDLG. Would you say the same thing about Sugarbits as well?

Speaking of other comics helmed by the great river-wrecking beaver NEK, Sugarbits and Zim have had a couple of rather major similarities – needless cameos at crucial moments. In the case of Sugarbits, it was even another person’s OC in a maid outfit (Julie) that had pages dedicated to her that completely derailed the storyline from the seemingly serious tone it was taking (as serious as one can get in a story where Licorice stabs NotBleedman to death and then sits on a toilet for our viewing pleasure). Zim had Princess Bubblegum appear – a most vapid cameo indeed.
Now there’s Jewel. Before her, Rook. Before that, random SJ villains. What is happening here?

Sure it’s not as bad as Harlem Shakes (which came shortly after my departure and signalled the commencement of the NEK era) or Frozen cosplay or Slave Leia outfits or goddamn Gangnam Style. But it adds NOTHING of substance in its present form. Chi is nothing but a walking container of bland, irrelevant pop culture gags masquerading as some fake reincarnation of a beloved character whose motivations in the plot could actually be really fleshed out if the right person were in charge.

Well, for now we’re stuck with GT’s equivalent of Scrappy Doo. If you want to “keep it this way”, then that’s just super.

          • athdlg

            06/15/2016 at 8:06pm

Nah, everyone has their own opinions. Ramble all you want, relieve the stress and all from your frustration of the comic to what you think is continuously declining.
When a new editor came along, I knew things were definitely going to change because the person was completely different to Grids. Grids offered something and now NEK is offering something. The quality of the comic is different, I agree with. Would I consider it better or worse? I’m not exactly how to describe my feelings other than that while certain elements of the story got me hooked (primarily the demons vs. angels and Mimi’s interesting background), it felt like a constant ‘meeeeehhhh’. Not good and not bad. Now that NEK is taking the wheel, it’s another kind of constant ‘meeeeehhhh’.

The first sentence is an opinion, yep. I can’t say the same thing or agree that things should stay the same in SugarBits because I was not that invested within that story to have a clear feeling over it. The concept was extremely interesting; however, I didn’t get too into it to say yes or no. Would I be happy or disappointed if another person took over NEK’s role as editor for SugarBits? No. So, I guess I could say ‘yes’ I ‘want’ to keep it that way.
There were a lot of cameos huh? I don’t mind. Now I’m wondering if they’re going to thrash as many cameos as they can into the Ghost Zone. There would be so much to do.
I was okay with Harlem Shake, I thought it was funny. Frozen, that’s a biased opinion since I really don’t like it. The slave Leia outfit was also fine to me since I thought ‘Hey, ridiculous possible symbolism, I like it’. Gangnam Style was also not my thing even though I liked the song. A 50/50 split for me.
We don’t know if Chi’s an actual reincarnation or not, yet, right? Maybe a missed something. I know a lot of signs point to it, but know one knows.
Woo, I’m glad you agree it’s super of me to want to keep it this way.

Jewel is a character created by Numa430 who is the daughter of Mimi and Grim Junior. As mentioned before by Numa, in an above correction of my presumed idea that he paid for her appearance, he asked and Bleedman generously gave a page for her.She might be a permanent character for a further plot of the comic.
I personally wouldn’t want this, but if it happens, it happens. Make it good, NEK!

      • Plasman

        06/14/2016 at 9:52am

Thanks ATHDLG. I find this to be interesting, but if she is the daughter of two characters that at this point in time are only twelve or younger it seems unlikely that she will become more than a paid appearance, but hey, this is nek and bleed. they will make it happen. On a serious note, if they wanted to kill mimi off now they could and Jewel would just take her place.

          06/14/2016 at 10:08am

Time travel is an overused plot device they could use. So, it would make sense. It could also, very easily, screw everything up because of how convoluted time travel can be.
Jewel definitely cannot replace Mimi. I may like her, but she is not an equal. I’m biased of course, but I’ll still stick to that statement.
They might as well kill off both Junior and Mimi and make the comic about Jewel since it’s their kid if they were to do that.

But she has expressed herself plenty of times without talking. Stars in her eyes at Chi’s concert or when she sees muffins. Flames coming out her eyes when she’s angry. Crying after reliving the worst day of her life. You don’t have to talk to convey emotion.

          06/14/2016 at 10:44am

Yeah, you have a point. Actions do speak louder than words. I honestly prefer the JrXMimi Ship. Maybe because it was the first to be shown. (Jr blushing around Mimi. Small snuff like that.)

        • Skully

          06/14/2016 at 8:53pm

But if you read the comic, they were obviously building up to A jr/mimi romance. It just started off small what with Mimi teasing JR and Jr blushing around her and him obviously caring about her a lot.
The buildup is there and honestly they would be very cute together. (Plus when has Mimi showed romantic feelings for /Chi/? Pouncing on her once doesn’t really count.)

Mimi/Chi showed up out of nowhere and completely destroyed what was perfectly good build up to a hetero romance. I’m amazed because in most fiction it’s the other way around. A straight romance destroying a perfectly good gay romance.
          Show you how good of a writer Bleed/Nek is (h a h.)

The end game originally wasn’t planned for Jr. to be with Mimi (or Minnie, if there are fans out there for their relationship).
Junior has shown that he cares for Mimi quite a bit in the newest chapters, but it seems more of a guilt-thing he’s got going on for not being there for her and having seeing everything she’s went through before she became ‘Her’.
Mimi has shown little to no interest in Junior or Chi in a romantic way. If anything, it seems like she sees them more as toy’s; currently, being pissed at Junior for being utterly useless when she was in need of help.

Ehm, I think I do not possess the necessary information to really grasp the situation.
Can someone please fill me in on who Jewel is? Or what I have to read to understand who she is? Is she from a different version of the story?
    Plz halp.

a character made by Numa430. she’s supposed to be the daughter of Jr and Mimi, But according to Griddles himself, Mimi is sterile & can’t have any children, so she’s considered non-canon as the daughter of the two at this point of time.

      More like Mimi’s Daughter 😉

  • 06/13/2016 at 1:56am

Is that woman originally a human?

    • numa430

      06/13/2016 at 2:27am

      You mean Jewel?
Nope, I actually had her made with my creative decision and Bleedman’s art skills to create something original that would be a hard way to say that she is Mimi and Jr’s daughter?
She would desire to become a human but that is for another story.

“she is Mimi and Jr’s daughter?”
        yknow what
that ship is ten times better than Mimi/Chi and Minnie/Jr (doubt the latter is canon.)
so I’m down with it. She’s cute.

@ATHDLG: Rather a combination of weird fetishes (I mean, daughter of two teenagers…yeah, nothing mind-boggling about that) and money, sadly.

Bleed likes being an …inspiration to people. When ever someone tells him that he actually replys. Granted it’s only usually a smiley face of some sort.

      • 06/24/2016 at 2:11am

So that’s your character? How could you join in the comic?

  • B0XofR0X

Wow….. Didn’t know what happened in Orlando until I came here… Ask Bleed to make a page of Grim Jr. hacking Isis troops and putting them on Mandy’s wall!

    • Aros001

      06/13/2016 at 3:13am

        06/13/2016 at 5:47am

It does not have anything to do with the page, but he is doing a moment of silence for the people who were massacred by a Muslim Islamic terrorist in a gay bar down in (The State, not a person) Orlando Florida today.

            06/13/2016 at 10:11pm

Despite the fact the ISIS and Allah are two radically different entities? ISIS (or more accurately known as ISIL) is a group of radical Muslims that are shunned by the rest of the Muslim community. They are taking their religion and bastardizing by saying they’re killing in the name of Islam and their god, Allah. Watch Gabriel Iglesias’ stand-up where he talks about his trip to the Middle East and that should give you a better idea of what the day-to-day Muslim is like.

On a side note, Orlando is city, not a state and should be written as “Orlando, Florida.” Not the comma.

            06/14/2016 at 12:07am

He didn’t kill 50 people and injure 50 more because he was Muslim. He saw two gay men kissing a few weeks ago and got upset, then was able to go out and buy a gun two weeks ago in spite of being on an FBI watch list. He was a registered gun owner. This was a hate crime, plain and simple- and now the Muslim community, including those who identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, are being threatened with violence because of this asshole. Seriously, most people- regardless of religion, race, or creed- are peaceful and caring and would never do something like this. Terrorism isn’t something secluded to one religion.

          06/13/2016 at 6:40pm

And that’s exactly why I hate muslims. Them and their shitty backward religion have been causing nothing but trouble for the past centuries. It’s time they fucking go with the times and leave their imaginary little friends at home.

          • Sage Wolf

            06/13/2016 at 10:07pm

Despite the fact that not all Muslims are radical extremists and would rather live and let live? Let me guess, you’re from some Southern state the believes in “‘Murica” and thinks that all immigrants should be deported. It’s narrow-minded people like you that helps propagate these kinds of stereotypes. I’m not saying what this person did was right or anything like that, but most Muslims just want a peaceful life and actively shun/disown all the extremists that are causing problems. You should watch Gabriel Iglesias’ stand-up about when he went to the Middle East. You might learn something.

          • 06/13/2016 at 10:08pm

            Wow. Just wow.

I’m just going to say don’t hate Muslims, hate terrorists. Because I’m pretty certain plenty of Muslims have been killed by terrorists too and it’s a very bad idea to generalize an entire group of people by their worst members.

I hope you do realize that all religions have terrorism including Christianity and Judaism. It isn’t just Islam, in the eye of the world, all religions are not perfect, neither are humans. Terrorist acts are committed everyday though being named as something else. Any group or person that inflicts fear amongst other people is a terrorist, not just Muslims. Honestly, insulting the practice of the religion doesn’t provide any solution, just makes you sound ignorant. Must Muslims actually don’t want anything to do with the terrorist acts and just want to live without them, just like the average person. Generally the world population is good, but you have the sour apples the spoil that group and force on a stereotypes against them. And since what happened in Orlando, he didn’t call for any terrorist or Islamic group, so you can’t point your finger at Muslims when heck goes down in the world.

I love how you bash him for stereotyping WHILE stereotyping. The hypocrisy is astounding. Yes, most people realize that all muslims aren’t bad, but compared to every other religion, they have the most extreme views with one of the biggest populations in support of those more extreme view.

I’m surprised by the big amount of misinformation everybody is splurging in an a coment section of a cartoon parody webcomic..

I’m actually against Islam as an ideology (shia and sunny, moderate and extremist by the same.), but there are places to discuss this kind of thing, don’t you think? Be done with it.

Althought, If you actually wish to discuss in an objective way with this same people, I encourage you to look for a chat room in another page and link it.

Hay man go f*** yourself. 1 Islam is not a “backwards religion” 2 learn some history the Christians have done much worst than what we’ve seen by ISIL or whoever 3 getting mad at Muslim or Islam’s for these crimes’ is like say Ing all cops kill blacks or saying all white men are racist. You can just pigeonhole a majority for what a fraction of people do.
