Not really a transformation, just another form so he can fly.
The pages are “Go Wrong” and “Pok Pok Pok”. You’ll find them when searching on pages 18(bottom) and 19(top), respectively. Unless Bleedman gets a page up by then, but his internet sucks right now and is estimated not going to update anything for a month.

I feel like I honestly write stuff better than this whenever I work. Could just be my ego, but my friends seem to like what I write, at least.
Just feels like, at this point, NEK doesn’t even bother with a glance before he okays what Bleed tries these days. The last few pages have been getting worse with the proofreading, and I can’t help but wonder if NEK even contributes anything at this point.

  • 09/17/2016 at 1:22am

lol its been years since I re-read this loser of a comic, I completely forgot that they showed his “transformation” or (lack-there-of) earlier that was my bad on my part. I assume he can alter his age or something similar in that regard. As much as I hate the way Bleed’s comics deteriorate as they drag on I really do hope this one makes it, I think if he just centered this story around Gene instead of Hansel and Ginger/Lico and just used them as side characters this comic would hold a lot of potential but I could be wrong. At least these updates for SB have been above-average.

also regarding the transformation people are bringing up, we already saw and know gene has wings in SB long ago. there’s not really a need to devote 1 whole page for something that is known. compared to minnie who we had no clue or idea that she could have something like that.

    • athdlg

      09/16/2016 at 4:04am

I’m glad there isn’t a page solely devoted to the transformation. While it was pretty obvious as to what would be shown in the next page, the previous page indicated a much bigger impact than what was shown.

If the page were solely devoted to the said ‘badass transformation’ it would still mean nothing and be even more disappointing that he’s not doing something more with said transformation. I’d see Chesna as not being phased anyway.

            @RED BEAR

@athdlg, wait a bloody moment. Are you implying that Carroll was – like what, a pedophile? You mean – some people still believing in that stupid crap that was debunked to death – like, ages ago?
It’s on the same level of stupidity as equaling lolicon and pedophile.

          • athdlg

            09/20/2016 at 8:31pm

Your assumptions are rather ridiculous as well. I never gave an opinion on what I believe Lewis Carroll to be a pedophile or not. He indeed have inspiration and a fixation on little girls that sparked into his own works, that’s all I did say. Those inspirations can be put in similar form to Bleed’s fixation on drawing loli’s.
Personally, I don’t believe we can correctly state whether or not Lewis Carroll was indeed attracted to children or not without actually meeting him to get a personal psychological view instead of simply reading what he has written and seeing what he has photographed. We can make speculations, but there are still psychology and independent studies today that both prove and disprove the idea of his fetish. It was not debunked, it was simply put aside for what people would like to believe based on studies as much as others believed he to be a pedophile in other studies.

          • red bear

            09/21/2016 at 4:48pm

            @athdlg, a-ha-ha-ha… nope.
1st, little girls were not his inspiration. It were women. Like, adult, grown-up, mature women. He was quite a lady’s man. Like, the reason why he stopped visiting Liddell family was a scandalous rumor that he has an affair… with Alice’s mother. And Carroll was more that OK with such rumors – he was quite proud of his image.
2nd, all that and more was extracted right from his own diaries & letters – or, to be precise, what’s left of it after it was “redacted” by his relatives after his death. And from memoirs of his supposedly “little” female friends – which, when corresponding dates were compared, appeared to be not that little… at all. In short, there are hard evidences from direct participants. It’s not some theoretical construct – it’s facts.
The thing is – it were different times. Christmas cards with naked children were absolutely normal thing. Photographs with naked children were as usual as now it’s with kittens and nature. That’s the three things almost everyone like to photograph – children, little cute animals and nature. Children were seen as something pure, asexual. Nobody thought twice about a well-respected grown-up gentleman spending some time alone with little or even a teenage girl. But change that girl to an adult woman – and situation immediately was seen as inappropriate. She’s married? – Twice inappropriate! So, to not dampen Carroll’s public image even more his relatives removed most scandalous pages from his diary. And his female “friends” done the same – in their memoirs they intentionally lowered their own age when mentioning meetings with Carroll, so they wouldn’t be seen as “loose” women. The little things people do in fear of public censure.
            It’s all out there.
LoL, it’s like an exact opposite of that “Tchaikovsky was gay” myth – “it’s all in his letters!” – ha-ha, no, it isn’t, not even close.

          • athdlg

            09/21/2016 at 11:01pm

All I can say is that written letter, notes, essays, etc., can only tell so much about a person. While there is evidence to prove facts about what a said person had done, and a semi-psychological perspective one what they have written and done in their works, it is still possible that there are secrets the person did not write about. Writings can tell a lot, but not everything. That is when meeting them and seeing their personal behavior mixed with analyzing their psychological state comes into play.
So, again, I still have no opinion on Carroll’s psychological state of his fetishes.

      • red bear

        09/16/2016 at 11:48am

Dream catcher is not Eastern thing and has been incorporated in Western culture for decades. Braveun doesn’t look like samurai (if anything, he looks like oni, specifically red oni, which is kind of justified). Yes, his design obviously influenced by Japanese folklore, but that’s all. Anyway, it’s irrelevant. He’s character, not tradition, and it was never established that he’s native, so he can easily be an emigrant. And Lewis Carroll is pure 100% Westerner.
I mean, it’s just stupid. Like that ramen stand in 3rd Season of RWBY – seriously?

    09/15/2016 at 12:48am

is gene a demon or a devil?

    • athdlg

      09/15/2016 at 1:55am

Gene’s real name, Mammon, is commonly personified as a demon of wealth and greed. Originally, the Bible is mostly thought to use the term ‘mammon’ to mean money or wealth which can represent a persons greed. In Christianity, there is one Devil but there are many demons whom the Devil controls.
There are instances where people consider the words “demon” and “devil” synonymous.
It depends on you, honestly. Either devil or demon is fitting for Gene’s personified figure.

      • Santessen

        09/15/2016 at 11:53pm

That actually brings up an interesting question. If Gene actually IS Mammon (or within the context of this universe, the current holder of the Mammon position) does that mean the other major demons also have realms? Is there a realm of Gluttony (near Confectionaria), led by Abbadon? In the area around Chesna’s realm of Love, is there a Lust zone where Chesna can go and have a talk with Asmodeus (or is he in charge of Wrath)? Chesna DID mention there are other realms besides the Big Five (actually we know of one, Veggie Hut).

        • athdlg

          09/16/2016 at 4:03am

Possibly; however, I kind of doubt it because Mammon isn’t really suppose to be associated with greed. It is just commonly thought up to be that way because mammon deals with the acquirement of wealth. Gene is suppose to be filthy rich, thus his name is Mammon.

          • Santessen

            09/16/2016 at 12:02pm

I suppose so, given that Dystopias appears to be a place where ALL forms of sin have a haven, not just greed. I just thought it was a fun possibility. I mean Chesna, the theoretical ruler of love seems to act less like Eros/Cupid than like Rosier (the demon in charge of making people fall in love) and seems to have been taking lessons from Carreu (the demon in charge of making people harden their hearts to the suffering of others) as well, and maybe Olivier (same deal as Carreu but specifically for the suffering of the poor) too since she seems intent on benefiting the five biggest kingdoms at the expense of all the smaller ones.

Oh and if you theory is correct (that Gene’s name is Mammon because he is so rich) what do you think the odds are that, if he has a middle name, it’s Croesus.

          • athdlg

            09/17/2016 at 6:02am

Me saying Gene is ‘Mammom’ is not a theory. That’s his name. The first page that he was introduced in introduced him as Mammon. The people we see call him Gene. As for a middle name, we don’t even know his last name. I personally wouldn’t want him to have any other name but the given name, Mammon.

          • Santessen

            09/17/2016 at 11:37pm

Okay, I said that wrong, I should have said “That Gene was named Mammon because he was so rich” That is whoever named him (his parents or Bleed depending on whether you are talking within the comic or without) chose the name to signify his wealth.

All I was trying to say is that just because Genes name is Mammon and he is a demon does not ipso facto mean he is THE Mammon, anymore than having the given name Elvis means you are Presley and/or can sing.

Wait isn’t Mammon his last name? If everyone calls him Gene, that is presumably his given name, with Mammon being his surname. I think you mean “I wish Bleed hadn’t given him a given name, and Mammon was the only name he ever had.” That’s valid, I suppose, but the fact is he did, and that makes it canon, no matter what any of us would like.

          • athdlg

            09/18/2016 at 2:46am

I was thinking Mammon was named that BECAUSE he’s filthy stinking rich, rather than him being ‘the real Mammon’.
There is no yet confirmation knowledge to whether Gene or Mammon be his first name, last name, or nickname. Mammon was the original name given when introduced. When meeting Hansel, Hansel was about to refer to him as Mr. Mammon, but Mammon told Hansel to call him “Gene”. This could be his nickname or his first name.
And, no that is not what I mean. What I mean is that I don’t want Gene to have a last name or middle name. Gene can be his nickname and Mammon can be his real name, it would be cooler to me since he’s a demon. If he goes by both, that’s perfectly fine, as long as he doesn’t have family names.

Boy, those wings are disappointing. Seems like Gene’s the so maniest guy who will be getting bossed around by a bitch in Bleed’s comic universe. Bleed really should try to hold back his fetishes more. It’s getting tiresome.

    • Lolwutpear_126

Also, what was exactly said on this page? It’s all so vague and drawn out. I really have no idea where this story is going anymore.

      • athdlg

        09/14/2016 at 8:49pm

I think that was probably the point of this page. To be vague enough to not know what exactly is going on but at least able to tell enough that something terrible is going to happen. That’s my guess anyway. I’m frustrated not knowing what’s going on either.

        09/14/2016 at 10:51pm

Pear, on the last page I believe it was discussed whether we would see the transformation and subsequent fight or if we would skip to Lico instead.
We kinda got both and neither. Lico and the wings (ish…. good?) but no fight. Does this please you?

        • Lolwutpear_126

          09/15/2016 at 11:53am

Hmm, everything in the last page indicated that there would be a serious confrontation between Gene and Chesna. I mean, you had Gene’s serious and angry words, the furniture rattling as if an earthquake were to happen (part of Gene’s transformation), you had Julie looking in fear at Gene’s wings, which weren’t openly shown to the reader, and finally you had Chesna’s vibrant eyes. Everything indicated something ominous was about to happen, possibly a fight between two really strong entities. Yes, I believe both Gene and Chesna hold extremely strong powers, but rarely show then unless the going gets tough, so to speak. But this page completely breaks that tension, that build-up towards something greater. We get a change to a completely different scene (why?), to Lady Hope and an indeed incredibly short Lico. We get to see Gene’s wings, but they’re just that: wings. Was a rumbling earthquake effect really necessary for Gene to just grow a pair of ordinary wings? Where’s the fangs? The claws? He barely seems to be a threat with just his wings out. What is he going to do with just those? Smack Chesna in the face? It would barely scratch her, nor would she be in any way impressed. Chesna herself seemed to be about to transform or show any kind of powers too in the last page due to her irises vibrantly lighting up. But it seems Bleed and NEK decided to make her spout some vague nonsense and make her think in a toddler-like way. I mean…’Ish good’? Really? These characters don’t seem to be just toying with eachother, but also with the reader. They build up tension and expectations when there are none effectively executed. They leave the reader dangling in front of some kind of carrot they were expecting to see or experience, at least. All in all, I get the feeling Bleed and NEK have no idea where this story is going either. They’re trying out different things, but fill up pages without a clear plan. This makes the characters feel out of place, even making them feel unnatural at times. And there being a clear lack of a coherent structure, a Plan (with capital P indeed) probably also explains the lack of a cliffhanger at the end of this chapter. Overall, I’m just really confused as a reader, since this comic seems to want to go to all kinds of places, but ends up in none.

  • 09/14/2016 at 8:47am

It could have been a nice way to end a chapter… but it kinda failed. You’re not supposed to end a chapter with a stupid reference for comedy, you should end it with something suspenseful, a cliffhanger.

    • Aros001

      09/14/2016 at 3:52am

I imagine Lady Hope is just kind of tall. Plus, isn’t Grim Jr just a year younger than Lico? Given her earlier appearances in the story I’d guess they’re drawn about the same height.

    • athdlg

      09/14/2016 at 3:53am

Lico’s body shrunk in size to match the height/age of Ginger’s when she was a child.

          09/17/2016 at 6:05am

Since we don’t know Lico’s actual age here, I can’t verify for sure. But if given that Lady Hope is wearing heels, or is just tall, the height for Lico is justified.

  • Santessen

    09/14/2016 at 2:31am

Speaking of confusing things, whose feet are those in the second panel? If they are Lico’s then the shoes are wrong, she still had her black boots on when she entered (I actually think I mentioned that it seemed odd that Mindsnare would give her a new ballgown but fail to give her more dancing appropriate footwear). Unless what we are seeing is some sort of odd double hybrid between modern Lico, and childhood memory Ginger (that is, that the two have gotten so melded in the memory that parts of Lico’s appearance are wavering back and forth between her clothes (which is what she was wearing when she entered) and the memory’s clothes (which is presumably what the real Ginger was wearing at that party) Lico seems to have de-chibified and gone back to her normal height and build, but maybe there are still traces.

Well, on the positive side, this being the end of this chapter and with NEK and Bleedman going to plot things out a bit before the next upload, we might be getting more Grim Tales uploads in the meantime, so that story could end up moving a bit faster, or at least we’ll know what Jewel’s deal is.

Yeah, the speech bubbles being all the same is confusing. Could have made them at least different colors or something. As for Inappropriate, I’m sure she was just thinking it. Screaming something like that out loud would be, well, inappropriate for a servant, especially after what just happened with her and Chesna. But the placement of the bubble is confusing yet again. I wonder where this story is going. Will it lead to Ginger’s big fight to meet the guy who took her mother, or will it be a completely different plot? I guess we’ll see.

Hah, she actually said ‘ish’ in her head. Also, I can guess who’s talking in the square blocks of dialogue but I’m not entirely sure. The “Inappropriate!” dialogue is also a little confusing to me, since I’m not sure if she actually said it or not. Big reveal of some disappointing demon wings, but at least the chapter is finished!
