…Huh. That’s a rather nice page, actually. And quite an interesting power from Chesna’s side. Hopefully this leads to something a bit more interesting, too.

If i can make a slight critique on his art….
He has very nice shading, and he made his style is own y=unique thing. So kudos to that. However i’ve become aware of a few things i feel he should improve on. Course he doesn’t really have to but, just a thought.
A few pieces of his seem a bit lazy, compared to some of his older works. There was definitely more passion in his older drawings.
Like i said, his shading is nice, but the colors he uses to shade makes the picture look dead. Using grey to shade isn’t really too pleasing on the eye. At least to me.
The faces start to run together. if u switch Chesna and Gingers face, they would look no different. That goes for many of his characters. Its ok for an artist to have their slip ups, but i feel as though he doesn’t try anymore. As if he found a style that gets results and just ges with it instead of the human need to constantly improve. Maybe he lost his drive to do so?

Your’e not the only one to think he just doesn’t care anymore nomfish 70% of guys who read his comics would say the same thing bro.But the thing is bleeds doesn’t read comments(maybe he does but just doesn’t reply) and he also doesn’t change anything even after reading comments(if he does). So critiquing his work at this point just seems like a waste of time and energy(typing energy????) but you’re still free to do so just wanted you to know the situation, you can ask guys like grids who have actually worked with bleeds and they’ll tell you pretty much the same thing dude.Well stay cool bro???? and i hope you keep on reading and commenting

      • athdlg

        08/31/2016 at 2:45pm

The critiques are justified. I agree with the majority of what is said; however, I don’t believe it’s that he doesn’t care in regards to what has declined in his skill.
Bleedman does have respect for others—at least for artists. It shows by his support for artists like Senji Comics and Mike Inel on patreon. Artists styles go through ups and downs. With each improved skills, it is likely that there is another skill previously learned that will slightly or dramatically decline. It can be natural or it’s because the artist spent a lot of time trying to improve one skill that they neglect the others.
Commissions, from what I’ve seen, he does well for what is paid to him. He takes the effort to put in more for his commissions. For Bleedman, art is pretty much a hobby and a secondary way of pay. He has a patreon, but that doesn’t mean that he’s going to draw specifically what the fans want (unless they pay the correct price for commissions) it simply means he’ll continue to draw things. So, for these comics, it’s not something that he’s going to make sure is as good as things like his commissions.
I enjoy the cleaner lines and decrease in clothing-folds. I still dislike that there are lines shown that ‘shouldn’t be there’, it’s a small peeve. You know, like the heart eyes. You can see that the heart continues over the eyelid.

Criticisms are subjective. Its nice to be able to give one without someone wanting to snap my neck.
I see what you mean on the linework. Some of it doesn’t bother me, but other times it can make me tick. Clothing folds look very nice as well.
Im sure he has people he is very polite to. But ive been hearing for years from several people (who have talk to him personally) And they say he’s very rude. Theres’ no telling what kind of person he’s really like. All we have to go on is what he makes public.

Haha, not saying the dude is nice or anything. Heck, I don’t know the guy. What I mean to say is that even with many negative impressions people have on him, whether personal or hearing it from another person, he does show that he does respect people. It appears that the person has to earn it though, instead of simply being a fan.

    • Grids

      08/30/2016 at 2:13am

I think it’d all be ok if this wasn’t a prequel comic. Chesapeake and Gene could easily be the protagonist of a story. Just not this story.

      • Goldtaills

        09/02/2016 at 4:01pm

I feel lost here Grids, can you explain how this is bad for the prequel comic?

        • Grids

          09/03/2016 at 10:04am

When your protagonist is and always has been Ginger and this is meant to show how Licorice got a foothold inside her psyche, having Chesticle and Gene argue on and on about a previously unseen plot device is bad narrative.
If they were the focus from the beginning then that’s fine. But this is all happening in the same instant Ginger is meant to be “freshening up”
It’s endemic of the NEK regime though so at least THAT is consistent

  • Santessen

    08/29/2016 at 6:36pm

Odd that, given how we know Bleed tends to think, the emotional spectrum of Julie does not include “Lust”. Here, we may actually have a character in a Bleed comic (excepting possibly PPGD) who is capable of loving someone WITHOUT wanting to bed them (not that she wouldn’t if she thought it would please Gene, but it doesn’t seem to be her overriding motivation.)

And the use of the term “mantle” in Chesna’s offer makes me think she may actually be offering Julie an officer’s commission in the guard, not mere membership. We may end up seeing something like Sir/Dame Julie, Knight of Eros.

      Mouth off, get promoted.
      Seems legit.

  • 08/29/2016 at 12:34pm

This isn’t a bad page to be honest. One thing however that irritates me is the colors she uses for the emotions. Green is obviously envy while something like yellow would be joy. Blue for sorrow is okay, as it closely resembles Sadness.

    • GeminiTheJester

      08/29/2016 at 2:23pm

yeah well everyone has their own perspective on things and associates them differently. Also there’s probably good reason for these colors being associated with those emotions, most likely because these emotions are often associated with ‘Love’ which makes sense given she’s supposedly the Leader of the ‘Cupid Guard’.

            08/30/2016 at 1:35am

sound neat, but I was referring to that she can probably only see emotions related in some way to love, would be an interesting caveat to her powers given it would only encompass her duties.

Agreed. Chesna is obviously the so maniest Mandy in Bleed’s arsenal. It’s getting tiresome.

  • bendoublebeta123

    08/29/2016 at 10:16am

Red bear has a point if bleeds is really basing this page on the archaic social setting which limited what you could say and do based on your standing or peerage. So that being said it really does make it easier her guessing ability to work and make sense. Good analysis red bear

  • bendoublebeta123

    08/29/2016 at 10:06am

Well this is a very interesting page both visually and plot wise which has actually made interested in the sugar bits story again and thank God her iris’s being shaped like hearts weren’t just for irony. I also really like hers powers because i think its unique and it really suits her, overall a really good page to me. Good job Bleedman (i never thought i would ever say that again)

  • Grids

    08/29/2016 at 6:48am

Reminds me of Stephen King’s “Insomnia”.

Can someone explain how being able to see emotions thru visits aura leads to her being able to predict the rest of people’s thoughts and sentences?

Empathy and Telepathy are not the same thing.

    • Grids

      08/29/2016 at 6:48am

      That is “Visual aura” actually.

    • athdlg

      08/29/2016 at 7:25am

My guess is that when practicing her abilities, being able to ‘see’ all of the hidden and outwardly expressed emotions of others, she correlates that with body language, facial expressions, nervous ticks, habits, etc.
She’s basically one of those magicians that’s able to ‘read your mind’ when really they’re simply able to tell what you’re thinking or about to do based on your body language, except she has an advantage with her ability.
      Quite a skill.

      • Grids

        08/29/2016 at 8:24am

That’s dandy and all but Chesnut at once stage intercepts Julie’s train of thought from partway through.
If she could simply pre-empt the end of a sentence then that’s easy enough. But she pre-empted an unspoken sentence! It’d be less peculiar if she had said the entire line aloud, beginning to end. But she cut Julie off at the very next word she was thinking, not saying.

That’s what I can’t see meshing with an empathic technicolor Skittles power.

        • athdlg

          08/29/2016 at 8:59am

With dialogue of what Julie and Gene said, it was pretty obvious in terms of what they could say, Chesna being able to deduce it easily. And with the previous dialogue mentioned where she stopped Julie mid-sentence, it can also be rather obvious to what she was thinking straight afterward. If it was a more specific interruption, it wouldn’t add up; however, for this particular situation, it wouldn’t be that hard for someone like Chesna to understand what others are thinking while at the same time staring into their blaring emotions.

        • red bear

          08/29/2016 at 9:59am

You’re thinking contemporary and Western, sir, while you should take into account that this is somewhat archaic setting, closer to some current Eastern cultures (Japanese, to be specific). So there are commonly known & recognized rules to how different strata of people should act. Their behavior and speech patterns must be specific and not that freely changeable. So there are patterns how a servant must speak & act, and patterns how a royalty must speak & act. Take this and that empathic ability of her – and in that strict & rigid social setting you’re getting pretty accurate guessing ability, almost pseudo-telepathically decent.

          • Goldtaills

            09/02/2016 at 3:56pm

So what both ATHDLG and RED BEAR are saying is….Julie and her master are predictable, so Chesna can imagine what they’re going to say and interrupt and even finish their thoughts with accuracy.
This rubs me the wrong way, its probably right but it bugs me. I thought they’d be more distinctive in word, thought and action than being predictable.

          • athdlg

            09/02/2016 at 7:22pm

I don’t mean to say Julie and Gene are predictable in general. The current situation is easily predictable for someone like Chesna. Chesna might think people are predictable because she might be that cocky though.

          • red bear

            09/02/2016 at 10:42pm

You should also took into consideration that Chesna knows Gene for a long time. And probably has a lot of experience with servants.
Um, didn’t you just reversed things up? I think that Chesna is that cocky because she has this ability.

    08/29/2016 at 4:28am

Oh! I really like this page. It leads up to why she took the piece of cake, if not only for other comical reasons if she’s going to eat it or something after. I like that she has this ability as well, making me wonder if the other queen’s we haven’t seen yet also have a power.

  • Santessen

    08/29/2016 at 4:16am

So Chesna is basically an apathic empath (can sense others emotions without sharing them)? You’re right, that does may her scary. She’s basically taking the one person who would theoretically be willing to stand in her way of total domination of Gene, and mastering her as well.

Though I think there is a grammar error in Chesna’s speech, it sounds awkward. I think she meant either “which a servant shouldn’t have” or “. In the presence of guests, a servant should have none.” (no “which” or comma.)

    • athdlg

      08/29/2016 at 4:41am

There are a few ways the sentence can be said, but the way Chesna said it would be fine (if someone were listening and not reading). It’s the comma after ‘which’ that is a mistake, it should be before ‘which’ when used as nonrestrictive and it would be correct.

      • Santessen

        08/29/2016 at 11:56am

Maybe, but I still think that, in that case, there should be an “of” before the “which”

        • Santessen

          08/29/2016 at 12:05pm

Or at the end of the sentence.

        • athdlg

          08/29/2016 at 12:15pm

As said before, there are a few ways the sentence can be said. All of your suggestions would be correct.
