I wonder what Junior will do about Minnies feelings for him. I’m curios of those two will really end up together since they kinda remind me of Grim and Mandy’s relationship but not as master and bitch.

I first read this in 2011, and boy was I amazed, and now that it’s come to this point all I have to say is bravo good sir, bravo, this is amazing! Splendid! You, sir, have an amazing talent! The only thing I have any personal issue with, from a professional standpoint I can’t find much wrong either but I have no right to judge as I have absolutely no talent in art whatsoever, but personally I wish Junior and Minnie would end up together, but it’s starting to look more like Junior/Mimi. But, I’m not exactly the brightest so I may just be reading this wrong! I mean no offense! And now I’m ranting, I’m so sorry, I’ll just stop now.

Jr. and Minnie can’t really be together, since that would imply incest as they’re still half-siblings from the same mother. Of course, this is the Underworld, so actually anything could happen as the morals we know as human beings probably don’t apply down there and everyone’s just fucking everyone. Quite possible. But personally I hope Jr. and Minnie will remain close as siblings, not in a sexual way, but more in some sort of friendly understanding way towards eachother. I actually think neither Minnie, Mimi or Chi are fit to be Junior’s partners. Minnie is his sister, so that’s just awkward. Mimi has some serious emotional trouble going on, and Junior, who’s already struggling finding his own place in the Underworld, certainly doesn’t need some unstable partner right now. As for Chi…well, we already know she’s mainly portrayed as a spoiled brat who is in desperate need of some attention from someone. Also, she seems to fall more for girls rather than for guys. But in any case Chi really still has some growing up to do. All of them actually need to mature first before they should consider serious love relationships, because it’s commonly known that most relationships at their age (which I estimate to be between 10 and 13, maybe 14) usually don’t last through puberty, and they are all from an important heritage which will bring them considerable responsibilities in the near future. At least that’s my take on this matter.

This is just my own personal view on all this, but I think the reason Junior and Minnie are often a popular ship is because out of all the characters, they are the ones we’ve seen get the most interaction with each other and most character growth/change as a result (as it should be, given that they are the two main characters). Not to mention it is their actual relationship that we see the most of.

So far Mimi has not shown any attraction to Junior, as she’s been completely focused on her task of helping Jeff. She’s had moments of kindness (or at least calmness) with Junior but nothing romantic, just friendly. And the only attraction Junior’s shown to her is that he thinks she’s cute and that he wants to help her because he’s developed into less of a selfish and self-centered character as the story’s gone on. Jewel is the only hint of what is to come in their relationship but neither character has gotten to that point yet (for, as you’ve pointed out, they’re about 11 or 10 years old so way too young to be having kids.

In Chi’s flashbacks we see that she and Mimi are in a relationship of some kind, but we only ever see it from her and Demongo’s point of view. We’ve yet to get the two of them actually interacting in the current story.

With Junior and Minnie’s relationship, we see that there is an attraction, at least on Minnie’s end, we see that the relationship between them was getting better after the events in Halloweentown now that Junior learned to appreciate her and in these later chapters that he does want to get along better with her, and we can see the drama and dilemma due to them being siblings. It’s not just a will they/won’t they situation but a should they/shouldn’t they one as well. Whether you ship them or not you are invested because you want to know what happens. And for some people they’ve gone so invested in Junior and Minnie’s characters and relationship that they find themselves actually wanting for them to find some way to make it work, even if it is incest. Not saying that I agree or not with this, it’s just my thoughts on the matter.

Artistically, there is some weird things going on in this page, like how Mandy’s headband doesn’t go all the way across her head and how the bed beneath Aku is like… The sheets are in reverse and there are no pillows…? And just a lot of corner cutting in general.

Wow that’s your big take-away from this?
I refer as well to the way it’s written. The title almost comes off as a parody of Edgar Allan Poe… by someone who has never read Edgar Allan Poe.

Like Poe points out, people attempt to look desperately for the hidden when it is right in front of their face.
The title doesn’t have to have a big meaning.
I guess that wasn’t obvious either.

Grids, a question on your story. Did you plan on developing this divide between Jr and Minnie as this story would suggest, Or did you plan to have them remain close?

      • Grids

        11/17/2016 at 7:46am

The rift was always planned. It began in What About Mimi, which I presided over. Minnie’s reaction to Mimi being kept alive and in Junior’s care was quite evident.

The original plans were for the rift to widen awhile. Since Mimi was considered a ‘pet’ by the Queen, Minnie would exert her own ‘play time’ with Mimi, with not so comfortable consequences. This would result in an eventual confrontation between the two siblings.
The whole “Minnie is Evil All Along” thing was never in the plan, but should I take charge again I have a very simple way of fitting that all in (hint: let’s all remember WHO gave us that little reveal of Minnie).

Eventually the rift would mend, not with the eventual pairing of the two (I had never intended for their relationship to end in such a way), but with Minnie letting go of resentment toward her brother and even moreso herself. Then, as she would soon find out, Princess Minimandy of the Necropolis would assume a new role that would involve much of her focus and attention. A role that would bring her a great deal of contentment.

The role of a big sister.

I find it funny how Mandy will deny Aku’s ‘Feminine side’. Grim kept calling him/her Aki while Mandy will just continue calling him a he… I still think that she’s jealous no matter how much she tries to hide it.

  • Aros001

    11/13/2016 at 11:11pm

I know some people have had complaints about Mandy’s character for past few pages but I think even they’d have to admit that this is definitely Mandy. Plotting, analytical, uncompromising, and will get her way no matter what happens. I love it, as she always was my favorite character on the original show.

I wish Bleed would put more effort in small details. I mean, look at Aku/Ikra’s feet in the third panel. It’s the small details which adds charm to comics… Oh well, other than that, an interesting page. I’m looking forward to see HIM getting into a mess he can’t bluff himself out of. Snarky guy has been annoying me ever since the first page he appeared in GTFDB.

    • Santessen

      11/13/2016 at 11:48pm

I’m not really sure how much more detail Ikra’s feet could have been GIVEN at that distance of shot. Some lines to show toe divisions and perhaps some red dots for her toenails? Any more than that it it would look weird from that far away.

      • Lolwutpear_126

        11/15/2016 at 9:58am

Oh come on. Bleed could at least have given her toes. Have you ever seen such sharp endings to feet instead of toes in comics (except for those with a distinct abstract or cartoonish style)? And where’s the arch between the sole and the heel? Pure laziness. If Bleed cares that much to put certain characters in his comics, give them distinct roles and positions, clothes and all, he at least could care to draw them out properly.

        • Santessen

          11/17/2016 at 4:19am

Actually, this is a little weird to say, but, after going through the whole of the old comic, I’m not sure we can even be 100% certain that Ikra even HAS toes. As far as I can tell, this is only the third time we’ve seen her feet AT all, and there has NEVER been one where they were all that clear. The other time we saw them bare (in the hot tub), the toe region was blocked by Him’s body, and actually they weren’t all that different there than they are here (she doesn’t really have much in the way of a sole or arch there either, and it is a MUCH closer up shot).

The other time we saw them was in “Daughter’s Flight, Mother’s fright” when you can see her shod feet below her kimono. This slightly increases the likelihood she has toes, simply because, like Chi, she’s wearing okobos and tabi and one would assume one would need toes to grip the loop. But there really isn’t much of a loop (they’res a division but the line is almost parallel to the arc of the front of the foot, neither side of the loop actually indents at all) so it may be that the division is just for show and the cross strap is actually holding her sandals on.

I’m not saying it is likely that she does not have toes (there is always the argument of “OF COURSE SHE HAS TOES, SHE IS HUMANOID!). I am just pointing out that we don’t really have any direct evidence of it, the way we do with Chi. And if she doesn’t than Bleed may not have been as lazy as we make out.

Not that anyone cares, but I’m rescinding my comment about the bellhops being Elder Things. They look sort of like them, but Elder things don’t have mouths, tentacles or wings (well, they do, but not in the forms and positions these ones have). Rather I think these ARE shoggoths (which would make sense for the job, shoggoths being a servant race), taking a form similar to an Elder Thing (shoggoths learned to imitate their creators’ speech, why not their forms?).

Mandy must have added some Campari to that glass as well, that drink got a HELL of a lot redder from when she poured it. In fact, it’s redder than I think scotch can usually get (bourbon can get that red if it’s old enough, because of the barrel char, but scotch is usually aged in uncharred barrels). Possibly some vermouth as well, if she was making a Scotch Negroni.

But then again, this IS the domain of the Old Ones. No golden space mead?

    • red bear

      11/13/2016 at 5:34pm

@Santessen, I think it’s just light(ing). In the 1st panel bottle is covered by Mandy’s arm, in second there is that galactic light from window going through the glass.

      • Santessen

        11/13/2016 at 11:43pm

Except that in the second the whisky is still being blocked by her palm, so the color should not change). I suppose you could reverse the thought and say that in the first it ISN’T being blocked by her skin (since half is over the open window and half over the shadow inside of her sleeve) but in that case the stuff should not be all one color (there should be the line of the sleeve visible in the bottle).

I suppose there is also the option that it IS bourbon. We just know IKRA (and presumably Him) comes here for the Scotch* (and so have presumably been provided with it). It doesn’t necessarily follow that Grim and Mandy got scotch. Each room could have been provided with the liquor the guest prefers.

*Incidentally, clever of Bleed (or Beeare, whoever does the text) to put that little detail in, knowing that a Japanese spirit like Aku would probably prefer scotch, since most Japanese whiskys are more scotch like (If you want to argue that EVERYONE prefers scotch, my two hard core bourbon drinking parents would tend to disagree with you.)
