You could also think that the 2nd tile is a easter egg. And the person was actually pushed instead of committing suicide.
Easter Egg would be Youjo Senki, 2nd episode, when he got pushed onto the train tracks with the incoming train.
I’m basing this on the fact that there’s a shadowy silhouette in front of the guy that is falling on the train tracks.

Still, the atmosphere in this comic is just superb. Feels like a dark slice of life story.

I don’t think it’s a reference to any silly anime. It’s a reference to the grim aspect of reality. To people struggling to survive, losing hope, committing suicide. You must be real blind to not catch the true meaning of this page. But then nothing really surprises me in people anymore.

Okay, but that’s life. We suck it up or we break down. Life itself is grim, therefore, meaning anything about doesn’t state much. Though, it doesn’t look like he committed suicide. He looks drunk and while he was tipsy, he plunged onto the train tracks by accident which cost him his life. Yet, still not that grim, it happens all the time. Life sucks, and that’s the truth. We just forget about the good things in life that make us happy, or we live in our own reality. Neither one is too good, but what can you do.

Sure, i might be blind. Or i might be acting the part. I can understand the grim aspect of life, tho in my way of life i have started not to care. Shit happens, can’t deny that. But the earlier comment is what came first to mind… So i left my impression in the form of a comment. That is all.

I don’t think it’s a reference to Youjo Senki’s second episode either – plus, if it was, the hair color would be different and the guy would’ve been pushed by someone else, I’d say – but I can totally see why THAT came into mind.

Still, yeah, grim aspect of reality sounds right to me too – and I’m starting to feel lie everyone in that town is crazy because they’re too… affected? And maybe just lost hope, while Aria’s just there.

My god. Counting how many people have taken their own lives in the subway. o.o
    *
And no one seemed to react in horror except for Aria. In the last panel they’re still just standing around calmly, just like in the first panel. Maybe, like the hobo, they’ve seen it all the time, too.
    *
And that poster of the Director… Is he someone famous and important in the city? Maybe it’s not just to highlight the character and remind you that he’s going to be in the story again.
    *
And I’m sure that WTF is wrong with this city? question will be answered, it’s probably too important and ground-shaking to answer so early in the comic; I can’t wait to see <3 ^^

Wonder why no one is asking, What The fuck is wrong with this place! Seriously will that be explained?

One could ask the same thing of Gotham, or whichever screwed up town Zim lives in. XD

Of course, you could also argue that these places (Gotham, The Crawling City, etc.) are just reflections of the darkness that exists in all people; a sort of microcosm to show how it’s natural for people to be corrupt like this. Evil is much more rampant than we’d like to believe.

But, all in all, I have to agree: What is wrong with this place?

Can anyone help me? I need some romance advice.

You see, I’ve fallen in love with this comic.

But in all seriousness, this was probably the most chilling page yet (at least for me). I don’t know what it is. Maybe it was the part where it finally clicked for me why this page was called “Counting.”

I also love that poster of the Director in the second panel, it’s nice to see such attention to detail.

I full heartedly agree with everything you said.
